After flying high against the Plainville Cardinals last Friday, the Oakley Plainsmen came back down to earth. Oakley took a 51-40 hit to the loss column at the hands of Trego on Friday. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Oakley in their matchups with Trego: they've now lost three in a row.
Despite the loss, Oakley still got an impressive performance from Karli Krier, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Krier is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Justice Booker, who scored eight points along with eight rebounds.
Even though they lost, Oakley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trego only pulled down six offensive rebounds.
Trego's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Reece Smith, who scored 18 points along with two steals. Avery Ziegler was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with two steals.
Oakley now has a losing record at 4-5. As for Trego, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-2.
Oakley won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Hill City at 4:30 p.m. on January 13th. Hill City comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Trego, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Phillipsburg at 6:00 p.m. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Kansas (Phillipsburg is ranked 114th, while Trego is ranked 116th).
