5A Region III District 18 recap Oct. 30, 2012
Alief Elsik's Ibrihim Alabi rumbled for the longest rushing play in 5A Region III District 18 this season in his game against MacArthur last week. Alabi scampered for 68 yards on the play and finished with 68 on the day as his team bested the Generals.
Alief Elsik extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating MacArthur, 52-0. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
The Rams' offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Caleb Bedford threw for 35 and one touchdown and Casey Williams had 35 yards receiving. On the ground Caleb Cormier chipped in 134 yards.
Alief Elsik's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Rams feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Bedford has thrown for 563 yards and three touchdowns this season, while Williams has 24 catches for 432 yards. Cormier leads the league in rushing with 577 yards.
A big matchup in 5A Region III District 18 this week will be when Aldine takes on Nimitz. The Mustangs are in fifth place, while the Cougars are in second place.
There should be lots of points scored when Alief Hastings and Alief Elsik face off this week. The top two offenses in the league, the Bears comes in having scored 35 this season, while the Rams have scored 225.
Nimitz moved up to 280 from 325 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. Robert Toomer's team climbed the ranks as a result of beating Eisenhower 27-0.
