The Morningside Academy Eagles have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 73-65 hit to the loss column at the hands of Admiral Farragut on Saturday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Several Eagles players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Damon Folds, who scored 23 points along with six assists and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Elijah Clifford, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds.
Leading Admiral Farragut to victory were Danielius Gelumbauskas and Vuk Lazarevic. Gelumbauskas shot 6-for-10 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 26 points and 14 rebounds, while Lazarevic dropped a double-double on 33 points and 14 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Lazarevic has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Marco De Carvalho, who scored seven points.
Morningside Academy's defeat dropped their record down to 13-6. As for Admiral Farragut, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Morningside Academy on the road again on Monday and play against Spanish River at 7:00 p.m. on January 22nd. Spanish River is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home. As for Admiral Farragut, they will head out on the road to challenge Lakeside Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Lakeside Christian's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 13 matchups.
