It's playoff time, and Foothill had no trouble coming through when it counted. Everything went their way against the Rosamond Roadrunners on Friday as they made off with a 34-13 victory. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won five contests by 21 points or more so far this season.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Andrew Trevino and Martin Velasquez. Trevino rushed for 132 yards and a pair of touchdowns while Velasquez rushed for 56 yards and one TD. Trevino is becoming a predictor of Foothill's success: when he posts at least 80 rushing yards the team is 7-1 (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Anthony Perez was in the mix as well, providing the Trojans with one score.
Foothill was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 241 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 192 rushing yards in seven consecutive games.
Foothill didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Cash McAfee and William Martin. Foothill received some extra help from Perez, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Despite the loss, Rosamond still got an impressive performance from Robert Evans, who rushed for 152 yards, and also caught one TD. Evans' rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 112 rushing yards.
Foothill has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won six of their last seven matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 37.1 points over those games. As for Rosamond, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.
Coming up, Foothill will take on Mira Monte at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. That contest will pit two of the most dominant backs against one another: Trevino and Nathan Gonzales. Rosamond does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
