The biggest upset of the week belonged to Cherryville, who defeated 294th ranked Bessemer City, 28-27.
The Ironmen extended the longest winning streak in 1A Conference 3 this week by beating the Yellowjackets, 28-27. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Bessemer City's offense was unstoppable this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Cedric Mackey contributed 101 yards.
Mackey was a passing and rushing force as Larry Boone's team fell to Keith Fox's team.
Mackey was the most successful running back in the league this week. He ran for 101 yards on 17 carries as the Yellowjackets lost to the Ironmen. Teammate Jha'Qui Adams added to the ground attack by rushing for 83 yards.
Thomas Jefferson Academy's Mason Martin and Efrim Borders led the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-1 quarterback Martin has thrown for 1,152 yards this season, while Borders has 40 catches for 687 yards. Bessemer City's Mackey leads the league in rushing yards with 1,525.
Community School of Davidson's Joey Bernardini is a mere 66 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. In 146 carries Bernardini has accumulated 934 yard this year.
A big matchup in 1A Conference 3 this week will be when Cherryville takes on Highland Tech. At the moment, the Ironmen are in third, while Highland Tech is in fifth.
Pine Lake Prep lost to Community School of Davidson 64-6 last week, the largest margin of any game.
