The Carrboro Jaguars are taking a road trip to challenge the J.F. Webb Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Carrboro has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Carrboro is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 17 runs on Friday, they were much more limited against South Granville on Monday. They lost 14-0 to the Vikings. The Jaguars have struggled against the Vikings recently, as the game was their ninth consecutive lost meeting.
Meanwhile, J.F. Webb entered their tilt with Southern School of Energy and Sustainability on Saturday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Spartans a 15-0 shutout. Considering the Warriors have won seven contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Terrie Thornton made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run, five RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Zikerra Reed was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run and six RBI. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Simone Ovando was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
J.F. Webb was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .600. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in 11 consecutive matchups.
J.F. Webb pushed their record up to 12-4 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Carrboro, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Carrboro hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .331. However, it's not like J.F. Webb struggles in that department as they've averaged .421. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Carrboro might still be hurting after the 14-6 loss they got from J.F. Webb in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Jaguars avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
