The Cardinal Newman Crusaders had already proven themselves in the regular season, and didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They put the hurt on Benjamin with a sharp 28-3 victory on Friday. Considering Cardinal Newman has won seven matches by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Jaylin ?Jbo? Brown was the offensive standout of the match as he rushed for 125 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.8 yards per carry.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Cardinal Newman's defense and their six sacks. Leading the way was Devon Byrd and his four sacks.
The victory was the fifth in a row for Cardinal Newman, bringing their record for this year to 9-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 41.2 points per game. As for Benjamin, their defeat was their third straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 8-3.
Cardinal Newman will take on Chaminade-Madonna at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Chaminade-Madonna's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six matches. Benjamin does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
