The Heartland Lutheran Red Hornets fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Riverside Chargers on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Chargers by a score of 35-32. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Heartland Lutheran in their matchups with Riverside: they've now lost three in a row.
Several Red Hornets players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brielle Saddler, who scored 16 points along with eight rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Ella Francl, who scored three points along with 16 rebounds.
Heartland Lutheran bumped their record down to 3-7 with that defeat, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.7 points per game. As for Riverside, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-7.
Heartland Lutheran will look to defend their home court on Saturday against Silver Lake at 6:00 p.m. Riverside is on the road again on Tuesday and play against Burwell on January 9th.
