Softball Recap: Bayside Makes It Three in a Row on the Road

Bayside came out on top against Norview on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive ten-run fifth inning. The Marlins' pitcher stepped up to hand the Pilots a 12-0 shutout. Considering the Marlins have won six games by more than seven runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

Bayside got a great performance from Carli Melton as she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Melton has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kayleigh Leeland-Powell, who went 1-for-4 with three runs and one triple. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Eadeion O'Leary, who earned two runs and two stolen bases.

Bayside hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Bayside's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-9. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for Norview, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-8.

Bayside has already played their next contest, a 2-1 victory against Kempsville on the 6th. As for Norview, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 22-9 defeat against Norcom on the 6th.
