Even though the University Bulldogs scored an imposing 59 points on Saturday, the Berthoud Spartans still came out on top. Berthoud snuck past the Bulldogs with a 65-59 victory. This was payback for Berthoud, who suffered a 74-56 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Berthoud's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Isaac Erickson, who scored 11 points along with five blocks and two steals. Erickson has been hot recently, having posted two or more blocks the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Declan Murphy, who scored 13 points.
Despite the loss, University still got an impressive performance from Gage Schminke, who scored 29 points along with eight rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Schminke has scored all season. Coehn Nitzel was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds and two blocks.
Berthoud's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-7. As for University, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 5-13.
Berthoud will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Bulldogs at 7:00 p.m. University is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for they, they will head out on the road to take on Berthoud at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Berthoud focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Saturday.
