Amherst is 8-2 against Axtell since October of 2016 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Broncos will be playing in front of their home fans against the Wildcats at 5:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Amherst is probably headed into the match with a chip on their shoulder considering Kearney Catholic just ended the team's five-match winning streak on Tuesday. They fell 3-1 to the Stars.

While Amherst ultimately came up short, they didn't go down without a fight: they scored at least 18 points in every set they played. The final score came out to 25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 25-18.

Despite the defeat, Amherst saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Breckyn Layne Veskerna had 23 digs and one assist.

Meanwhile, Axtell didn't have quite enough to beat Arapahoe on Tuesday and fell 3-2. While the Wildcats didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Warriors 25-15 in the first set.

Axtell actually scored more points across those five sets (106-92), but sadly they still had to settle for second. The match finished with set scores of 15-25, 12-25, 25-23, 25-22, 15-11.

Axtell's loss dropped their record down to 12-10. As for Amherst, their defeat dropped their record down to 17-5.

Amherst beat Axtell 2-0 in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Will the Broncos repeat their success, or do the Wildcats have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
