Football Recap: Mesa Verde Skates Past Sacramento with Ease

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mesa Verde). They blew past the Sacramento Dragons, posting a 34-6 victory. While the Mavericks didn't have the best season last year (they finished 6-8), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Mesa Verde found their leader in sophomore Paisley Shepherd, who picked up three sacks and made five total tackles (5.0 for loss).

Mesa Verde's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB five times. The heavy lifting was done by Shepherd and Madalyn Custer, who racked up all five sacks between them. Shepherd is on a roll when it comes to sacks, as she's now posted at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Jaiden Alexander got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

The win made it two in a row for Mesa Verde and bumps their season record up to 4-1.

Looking ahead, Mesa Verde will challenge Elite at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Sacramento, they are headed away from home for the first time to square off against Vista del Lago at 5:15 p.m. on Wednesday. The Eagles' defense has only allowed 7.3 points per game this season, so the Dragons' offense will have their work cut out for them.
