The Ayala Bulldogs will be playing in front of their home fans against the Culver City Centaurs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Ayala had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They blew past Alta Loma 43-6 at home. The result was nothing new for Ayala, who have now won three contests by 35 points or more so far this season.
Ayala's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maximus Barroso, who rushed for 52 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 45 yards and a touchdown. Elijah Duarte was another key contributor, throwing for 68 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Ayala's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Nathan Bull and his two sacks.
Meanwhile, Culver City won a contest that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Santa Monica 27-26. Given Culver City's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 113th, while Santa Monica is ranked 296th), the result on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Culver City's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Pierce Reynoso, who rushed for 94 yards and a touchdown. Another player making a difference was Sammy Silvia, who threw for 167 yards and two touchdowns.
Ayala has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. As for Culver City, their win bumped their record up to 7-3.
