On Friday, it was a hard-fought game, but Maywood CES had to settle for a 39-36 defeat against Calvary Chapel. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Maywood CES came into the match with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 499th, while Calvary Chapel is ranked 1008th).
Among those leading the charge was Terrance Gammage, who scored 11 points along with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Kirk Cuthbert, who scored 7 points along with 4 steals.
This is the second loss in a row for Maywood CES and nudges their season record down to 2-2. As for Calvary Chapel, their victory bumped their record up to 2-5.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Maywood CES will take on Santee at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Santee comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Calvary Chapel, they will be playing at home against Hawthorne at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Hawthorne is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
