On Thursday, the Philip Barbour Colts faced the East Fairmont Bees in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Philip Barbour ended up on the wrong side of a tough 69-45 walloping at the hands of East Fairmont. It was the first time this season that Philip Barbour let down their fans at home.
Despite the defeat, Philip Barbour saw an underclassman step up: Izzy Knotts dropped a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Knotts is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last ten games she's played. Another player making a difference was Arrington Sparks, who scored four points along with six steals.
Kenly Rogers continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for East Fairmont, almost dropping a double-double on 23 points and nine rebounds. Rogers has been hot recently, having posted 21 or more points the last three times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Shupe, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.
Philip Barbour's loss ended a six-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-3. As for East Fairmont, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 16-0.
Philip Barbour will be playing at home against Lewis County at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Hopefully Philip Barbour focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Thursday. As for East Fairmont, they will head out on the road to square off against Fairmont Senior at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. East Fairmont knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 16 contests -- so hopefully Fairmont Senior likes a good challenge.
