The Paul VI Panthers are taking a road trip to take on the Hartsville Red Foxes at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Paul VI's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Hartsville's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
While Paul VI's victory against St. Stephen's & St. Agnes wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. Paul VI narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past St. Stephen's & St. Agnes 5-3.

Aiden Gallagher made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out nine over five innings pitched. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with three RBI and one double.
In other pitching news, Landon McGinn looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
Gallagher wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Ryan Vaxmonsky, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Hartsville won against Lakewood on Tuesday with 15 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. Everything went Hartsville's way against Lakewood as Hartsville made off with a 15-0 victory. That 15 run margin sets a new team best for the Red Foxes this season.
Like Paul VI, Hartsville also got a great game from a two-way player: Bryce Oliver. He tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Oliver was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Web Barnes, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. He also put up a double, which was his first of the season.
Hartsville hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in three consecutive games.
Hartsville's win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-2. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.8 runs over those games. As for Paul VI, their record is now 3-1.
Paul VI took their victory against Hartsville when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-1. Will Paul VI repeat their success, or does Hartsville have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
