The Whitney Wildcats will head out on the road to take on the Rocklin Thunder at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Whitney comes in on four and Rocklin on six.
On Friday, Whitney was able to grind out a solid win over Granite Bay, taking the game 7-2.
Taylor Cordell tossed a big game, striking out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits (and only one walk).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bri Seffens, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Rebecca Rau, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Whitney kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That's the most hits they've posted since back in April.
Meanwhile, while Rocklin put up some runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Davis Sr. The Thunder came out on top against the Blue Devils by a score of 4-0.
The result came thanks to Payton Prior's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Sammie Snell was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. Renee Dragseth also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Whitney's record now sits at 19-8. As for Rocklin, their record is now 19-4.
Whitney skirted past Rocklin 5-3 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
