Wickliffe is 1-9 against Kirtland since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Wickliffe Blue Devils will head out on the road to square off against the Kirtland Hornets at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
Last Tuesday, Wickliffe was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 48-42 to Chagrin Falls. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Wickliffe in their matchups with Chagrin Falls: they've now lost five in a row.
Meanwhile, Kirtland unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Tuesday. The game between Kirtland and Beachwood wasn't particularly close, with Kirtland falling 70-54. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Kirtland came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 214th, while Beachwood is ranked 660th).
Wickliffe's loss dropped their record down to 2-9. As for Kirtland, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-3.
Things could have been worse for Wickliffe, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 61-47 loss to Kirtland in their previous meeting back in December of 2023. Can Wickliffe avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
