Basketball Recap: Jersey Paul Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Fort Wayne Bishop Luers

Carroll's game last Saturday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They snuck past the Fort Wayne Bishop Luers Knights with a 63-57 victory. Given the Chargers' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 44th, while the Knights are ranked 150th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Carroll to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jersey Paul, who posted 18 points and three steals. Paul has been hot for a while, having posted two or more steals the last nine times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily George, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 15 boards.

Despite the loss, Fort Wayne Bishop Luers still got an impressive performance from Reese Rhodehamel, who went 7 of 8 en route to 20 points along with seven rebounds and three blocks. That was a full 35.1% of Fort Wayne Bishop Luers' points, marking the third time in a row she's scored more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Karianne Gilman, who put up seven points in addition to five assists and three steals.

The win got Carroll back to even at 9-9. As for Fort Wayne Bishop Luers, with the loss, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 8-10.

Carroll wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, an 86-42 victory against Fort Wayne South Side on the 24th. Fort Wayne Bishop Luers has also already played their next contest, a 55-35 defeat against Woodlan on the 21st.
