Whitmire has been on the road for seven straight, but on Tuesday they'll finally head home. The Whitmire Wolverines and the Calhoun Falls Charter Blue Flashes will face off at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Whitmire has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Whitmire scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. They blew past Thornwell 41-12 on the road. For those curious, yes, that was the biggest win Whitmire has managed all season.
Whitmire's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Raylin Vicars, who scored nine points along with seven steals. Vicars is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Trystan Samples was another key contributor, scoring six points along with eight rebounds and six blocks.
Meanwhile, Calhoun Falls Charter came tearing into Thursday's matchup with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They took their game at home with ease, bagging a 78-28 win over South Carolina School for the Deaf & Blind. Calhoun Falls Charter has made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won four games by 25 points or more this season.
Autumn Thomas was her usual excellent self, scoring 24 points along with eight assists and five rebounds. That's the first time this season that she posted eight or more assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Sanders, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 12 rebounds.
Whitmire's win bumped their record up to 2-13. As for Calhoun Falls Charter, they are on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season.
Tuesday's game is shaping up to be a scrappy contest: Whitmire have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 12.1 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Calhoun Falls Charter struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 36.7 rebounds per game. Given Whitmire's sizeable advantage in that area, Calhoun Falls Charter will need to find a way to close that gap.
Whitmire took a serious blow against Calhoun Falls Charter when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 53-17. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Thomas, who scored 30 points. Now that Whitmire knows the damage she can cause, will they be able to stop her this time?
