Centauri put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They took down the Montezuma-Cortez Panthers 65-51. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 58-41 back in January.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Centauri to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carson Bagwell, who went 10-for-14 on his way to 21 points and five boards. Troy Sowards was another key player, going 7-for-14 en route to 14 points.
Centauri was working as a unit and finished the game with 15 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Montezuma-Cortez only racked up six assists.
Montezuma-Cortez's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Trace Hartsoe, who went 7-for-10 to rack up 15 points. That's the most points Hartsoe has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Tay Wheat, who scored 16 points.
Centauri's win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 17-0. As for Montezuma-Cortez, they suffered their first home defeat, dropping their record down to 13-5.
Centauri has already played their next matchup, a 66-50 victory against Bayfield on the 8th. As for Montezuma-Cortez, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 69-48 win against Alamosa on the 8th.
