Two dominant players in Alaysia White and Jayda Haley are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Coolidge Bears will be home for the holidays to greet the Sabino Sabercats at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Last Monday, Coolidge didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Blue Ridge, but they still walked away with a 55-51 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for Coolidge.
Coolidge's success was spearheaded by the efforts of White, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 15 rebounds, and Naylissa Charles, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds. The match was White's eighth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Amaira Miguel, who scored eight points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Sabino was able to grind out a solid win over Thatcher on Thursday, taking the game 59-47.
Sabino found their leader in underclassman Haley, who dropped a triple-double on 28 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 steals. That makes it 11 consecutive games in which Haley has scored at least 25% of Sabino's points. Haley Hunter was another key contributor, scoring six points along with three steals.
Coolidge's victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Sabino, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 4-7 record this season.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Coolidge have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 36 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Sabino, though, as they've been averaging only 24.4 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Everything came up roses for Coolidge against Sabino in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 as the team secured a 53-19 victory. Will Coolidge repeat their success, or does Sabino have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
