Baseball Game Preview: Clay-Chalkville Cougars vs. St. Clair County Fighting Saints

The Clay-Chalkville Cougars are taking a road trip to take on the St. Clair County Fighting Saints at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, the two teams will really light up the scoreboard.

Having struggled with three losses in a row, Clay-Chalkville turned things around against Minor on Tuesday. They walked away with a 12-9 victory over the Tigers.

EJ Thomason and Dorian Daniel were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Thomason pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Daniel pitched 1.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Thomason also tossed no walks, which is notable because Clay-Chalkville is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-6 otherwise. At bat, Thomason scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-3, while Daniel scored a run while going 1-for-3. Thomason has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

In other batting news, Clay-Chalkville let Aaron Frye and Nic Youngblood run wild. Frye scored four runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-4, while Youngblood went 4-for-5 with three doubles, two RBI, and one run. That's the most stolen bases Frye has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Kayden Lee, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI.

While St. Clair County didn't have the best season last year (they finished 12-24), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. Everything went their way against Douglas on Monday as St. Clair County made off with a 10-4 win. Considering the Fighting Saints' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.

Clay-Chalkville's record is now 4-7. As for St. Clair County, their record is now 10-5.

Clay-Chalkville couldn't quite finish off St. Clair County when the teams last played back in February and fell 4-2. Can Clay-Chalkville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
