Wasatch hasn't had much luck against Spanish Fork recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wasps will be playing in front of their home fans against the Dons at 3:30 p.m. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Wasatch took a loss when they played away from home on Monday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Timpview with a sharp 12-2 win. The victory continues a trend for the Wasps in their matchups with the Thunderbirds: they've now won nine in a row.
Liana Jones was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one triple. That triple was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brylee Smith, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Wasatch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. They are 7-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Spanish Fork faced Salem Hills in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Dons narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past the Skyhawks 7-5.
Paizley Boman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over 6.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted over her last 11 contests. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one triple and one run.
In other batting news, Jade Romero was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs.
Wasatch's victory bumped their record up to 7-17. As for Spanish Fork, the win got them back to even at 12-12.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Wasatch hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Spanish Fork struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
