Basketball Recap: Whitko Piles Up the Points Against Northwestern

It was a proper cat-fight when Whitko faced off against Northwestern on Saturday. The Whitko Wildcats simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat the Northwestern Tigers 59-26. Given the Wildcats' advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while the Tigers are ranked 288th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Leading Whitko to victory were Reese Stonebraker and Adriyanna Phillips. Stonebraker went 11 for 23 on her way to 20 points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals, while Phillips went 8 for 20 on her way to 18 points and eight rebounds. Phillips' evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ally Brown, who posted seven points.

Northwestern's loss came despite strong showings from Anna Bishir and Maci Rody. Bishir went 5 of 12 on her way to 12 points, while Rody put up four points and six boards.

Whitko has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 69.2 points per game. As for Northwestern, their loss dropped their record down to 2-5.

Whitko will square off against Manchester at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Whitko knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five games -- so hopefully Manchester likes a good challenge. As for Northwestern, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 48-24 victory against Eastern on the 10th.
