The Cottonwood Colts pushed their score all the way to 61 on Thursday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They lost to Highland on the road by a decisive 79-61 margin. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Cottonwood in their matchups with Highland: they've now lost six in a row.
Cottonwood's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Luke Park, who scored 11 points along with seven assists and three steals, and John Rosevear who scored 18 points. The contest was Rosevear's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Ryan Nielson was another key contributor, scoring ten points.
Even though they lost, Cottonwood were working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Highland only racked up 22 assists.
Highland's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from George Mcconkie, who dropped a double-double on 21 points and 12 rebounds. Mcconkie is absolutely dominating the block category: he's posted at least two every time he's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Drisdom, who scored 14 points along with six assists and five rebounds.
Cottonwood's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Highland, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-1.
Cottonwood will head out on the road to face off against Skyline at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Skyline is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 53 points per game. As for Highland, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Fremont at 7:00 p.m.
