The Hidalgo Pirates won the last time they faced the Zapata Hawks, and things went their way on Monday too. Hidalgo narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Zapata 35-33.
Edgar Jauregui was nothing short of spectacular: he scored 12 points along with seven steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Gerald Perez, who scored eight points along with two steals.
Hidalgo's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-16. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.3 points per game. As for Zapata, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 6-18.
Hidalgo will head out on the road to face off against Raymondville at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Hidalgo focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Monday. As for Zapata, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against La Feria at 7:30 p.m. One thing working in La Feria's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last three matchups.
