Corvallis and Lebanon are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Spartans will head out to challenge the Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in Corvallis' favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last four contests.
Corvallis came out on top against Woodburn on Friday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run fourth inning. The Spartans blew past the Bulldogs 10-0. The Spartans might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six matches by seven runs or more this season.
Andrew Street made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Axel Prechel, who went 1-for-2 with three RBI and one stolen base. Gavin Todorovich was another key player, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one double.
Corvallis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Lebanon started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Central. They fell 10-6 to the Panthers on Friday. The Warriors have struggled against the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.
Lebanon saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Trey Enright, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI. Another was Niko Autry, who went 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Corvallis is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games. As for Lebanon, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-5.
Both Corvallis and Lebanon just can't seem to miss. The Spartans have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Lebanon struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Corvallis skirted past Lebanon 6-5 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
