For the first time this season, Alhambra will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup on Friday. They will head out to square off against the McClintock Chargers at 3:45 p.m. Alhambra is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9 runs per game this season.
Alhambra took a loss when they played away from home on Tuesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Thursday. Everything went their way against Desert Mountain as Alhambra made off with a 10-4 win.
Alhambra got a big performance out of Christopher Martinez, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs Martinez has posted since back in February of 2024. Ricardo Fonseca was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but McClintock ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They skirted past Maricopa 5-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Chargers have posted against the Rams since April 20, 2017.
Javier Alvarado made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he brought in this season.
Alvarado wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Alex Nemecek, who scored a run while going 2-for-5. Maurice Boone also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
The win made it two in a row for McClintock and bumps their season record up to 3-2. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing nine hits in those games compared to only five in the others. As for Alhambra, they now also have a winning record of 3-2.
McClintock's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Alhambra has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .432. It's a different story for McClintock, though, as they've only averaged .361. Will they be able to contain Alhambra's hitters?
