Basketball Game Preview: Gaston Day Spartans vs. Concord Academy Eagles

Gaston Day hasn't had much luck against Concord Academy recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Gaston Day Spartans will head out on the road to square off against the Concord Academy Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Gaston Day is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 65.9 points per game this season.

Gaston Day is headed into the matchup having just posted their closest victory since November 29, 2024 on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against SouthLake Christian Academy, sneaking past 46-44. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 61st, while the Eagles are ranked 205th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Gaston Day's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Braylen Todd led the charge by putting up 11 points and five rebounds. That's the most boards Todd has posted since back in November of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Dyson Britt, who posted 13 points.

Meanwhile, Concord Academy waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with eight straight wins... but they left with nine. They breezed by the Warriors to the tune of 82-40. The Eagles have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 15 games by 20 points or more this season.

Concord Academy pushed their record up to 28-3 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. They've dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 31.8 points. As for Gaston Day, their record now sits at 18-9.

Gaston Day came up short against Concord Academy when the teams last played back in January, falling 76-64. Can Gaston Day avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
