The Hoggard Vikings struggled with assists on Friday (the Wakefield Wolverines had seven more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Hoggard took a 63-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Wakefield. While losing is never fun, Hoggard can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 138th, while Wakefield is ranked 17th).
Hoggard's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jaylen Herring, who scored 12 points along with four steals. Herring has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Nas Session, who scored ten points.
Syncere Burnette continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Wakefield, scoring 21 points along with eight assists and seven rebounds. The match was Burnette's sixth in a row with at least ten points. Colin Taylor was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Hoggard has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-4 record this season. As for Wakefield, the win for they keeps them at an undefeated 11-0.
Hoggard won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Cary at 3:30 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Wakefield won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Laney at 12:30 p.m. on December 30, 2023. Laney is on a four-game streak of home wins, Wakefield a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
