The Mountain Empire Redhawks will head out on the road to face off against the Julian Eagles at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.
Mountain Empire unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They fell to Borrego Springs 45-39.
Mountain Empire's defeat came about despite a quality game from Corey Vann, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 12 rebounds. Vann scored a full 48.7% of Mountain Empire's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Maximo Gonzalez, who scored 9 points along with 14 rebounds.
Meanwhile, after a string of three wins, Julian's good fortune finally ran out two weeks ago. They fell just short of Mountain Empire by a score of 41-38. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Julian in their matchups with Mountain Empire: they've now lost six in a row.
Their wins bumped Mountain Empire to 3-1 and Borrego Springs to 2-1.
Mountain Empire came out on top in a nail-biter against Julian in their previous matchup two weeks ago, sneaking past 41-38. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mountain Empire since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
