Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Mater Lakes Academy walked away with it. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Stallions on Friday and snuck past 2-1. That's two games straight that Mater Lakes Academy has won by exactly one goal.
They were led to victory by the tag-team duo of
Gabriel Zapata and
Henry Mantilla, who scored both of Mater Lakes Academy's goals. The pair have combined for a total of 26 so far this season.
Meanwhile, Gulliver Prep has not lost a match in the yet, a trend which continued in their latest game on Friday. They and Somerset Academy - Canyons finished up their match with a 0-0 draw.
Mater Lakes Academy's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-0-1. Gulliver Prep's draw makes their record 21-0-2 this season.
Mater Lakes Academy suffered a grim 4-0 defeat to Gulliver Prep in their previous meeting back in February of 2021. Can Mater Lakes Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
