The River Valley Dust Devils's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their seventh straight loss. They took a serious blow against Moapa Valley, falling 59-25. River Valley was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 34-10.
Cherity Gonzalez and Veronica Galvez certainly did their best on Wednesday to try and avoid the loss. Gonzalez scored nine points, while Galvez scored nine points.
Moapa Valley's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Haylie Western, who scored 17 points along with three steals. Western continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Savanna Burt was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with six rebounds.
River Valley's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for Moapa Valley, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-2.
River Valley will be home for the holidays to greet Pahrump Valley at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. Pahrump Valley is looking to tack on another W to their four-game streak on the road. Moapa Valley won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Lincoln County at 9:00 a.m. on December 21st. Lincoln County will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Nevada Rankings (they are ranked 61st, while Moapa Valley is ranked 11th).
