Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Long Beach Poly walked away with it. They came out on top against Vista Murrieta by a score of 30-21 on Friday.
It was another big night for Darius Curry, who threw for 285 yards and two touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground.
Servite never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Valencia last Friday. Everything went their way against the Vikings as they made off with a 48-24 win. Considering Servite has won four matchups by more than 20 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Servite's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Quaid Carr led the charge by rushing for 174 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.9 yards per carry. Carr was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 67 yards. Servite also got help from Ethan Naudin who showed off his sure hands for 110 receiving yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Servite's defense and their five sacks. Leading the way was Tomas Cernius and his four sacks.
Long Beach Poly has yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 10-1 record. As for Servite, they now have a winning record of 6-5.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as the pair have no problem gaining yardage. Long Beach Poly has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 377 total yards per game. However, it's not like Servite struggles in that department as they've been averaging 368.9 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them. Come back here after the game to get analysis of the match and other football content.
Long Beach Poly barely slipped by Servite in their previous matchup back in November of 2014, winning 34-33. The rematch might be a little tougher for Long Beach Poly since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
