Softball Recap: Geneseo Has No Trouble Against Moline

Geneseo barely beat Moline the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Maple Leafs were the clear victors by a 12-2 margin over the Maroons on Tuesday. The Maple Leafs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by six runs or more this season.

Kendyl Wassenhove made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double.

In other batting news, Geneseo got a massive performance out of Madisyn Buysse, who went 3-for-5 with three runs, three RBI, and one triple. Buysse has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. Penny Kline was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.

Geneseo kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 12 hits in three consecutive matchups.

Geneseo pushed their record up to 20-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Moline, their loss dropped their record down to 8-15.

Looking ahead, Geneseo will be playing at home against Rock Island at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rocks' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Maple Leafs' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Moline, they are taking a road trip to square off against Galesburg at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Maroons are facing the Silver Streaks at the right time seeing as the Silver Streaks are stuck on a 25-game losing streak.
