Center Moriches hasn't had much luck against Babylon recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Red Devils will be playing in front of their home fans against the Panthers at 4:30 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Tuesday, Center Moriches got the win against Southold/Greenport by a conclusive 22-2. While fans of the Red Devils might be used to big wins, the 20-run margin marked the team's biggest one yet.
Karly Coonan made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. Coonan was even better at the plate, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Center Moriches got a massive performance out of Kayla Cascone, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with five RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. Lilah Eten was another key player, going 3-for-4 with three runs, three RBI, and one double.
Center Moriches always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .791. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Babylon got themselves on the board against Pierson/Bridgehampton on Tuesday, but Pierson/Bridgehampton never followed suit. They put the hurt on the Whalers with a sharp 14-0 win. Winning may never get old, but the Panthers sure are getting used to it with their fifth in a row.
Babylon's victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-3. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Center Moriches, their victory bumped their record up to 8-9.
Center Moriches couldn't quite finish off Babylon in their previous meeting two weeks ago and fell 11-9. Will the Red Devils have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
