After a string of three wins, the Alexander Spartans's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They suffered a rough 67-47 loss at the hands of Athens. While losing is never fun, Alexander can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 332nd, while Athens is ranked 121st).
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kaylee Hudnall, who scored 13 points. The contest was Hudnall's fifth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Lily Ryder, who scored 15 points.
Alexander's loss dropped their record down to 4-4. As for Athens, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with that win, which was their third straight on the road.
Alexander will finish 2023 at home by hosting Paint Valley at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Athens, they will head out on the road to face off against Circleville at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Circleville will be coming into the game with an undefeated record on the line.
