The Big Sandy Wildcats won the last time they faced the Shepherd Pirates, and things went their way on Thursday too. Big Sandy skirted past Shepherd 52-50. Given Big Sandy's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while Shepherd is ranked 1237th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Shepherd's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Tristen Cullum, who scored 15 points. Cullum scored a full 30% of Shepherd's points, the 11th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Brayden White, who scored 13 points along with 5 rebounds.
Big Sandy is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 6-2 record this season. As for Shepherd, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-7.
Big Sandy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Splendora at 11:00 a.m. on December 7th. Hopefully Splendora focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 last Saturday. As for Shepherd, they will take on Santa Fe at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
