The San Elizario Eagles will head out on the road to face off against the Austin Panthers at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, everything went San Elizario's way against Fabens as San Elizario made off with a 40-17 win. The victory was just what San Elizario needed coming off of a 46-25 defeat in their prior matchup.
It was another big night for Maya Contreras, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 13 rebounds. That makes it 12 consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of San Elizario's points. The team also got some help courtesy of walker Jayden, who scored six points along with seven rebounds.
Meanwhile, Austin had already won nine in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 17 points), and they went ahead and made it ten on Tuesday. They came out on top against Harmony Science Academy by a score of 39-32.
San Elizario's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-17. As for Austin, they pushed their record up to 16-13 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road.
San Elizario strolled past Austin in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 by a score of 33-18. The rematch might be a little tougher for San Elizario since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
