South Panola is 2-8 against Lake Cormorant since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. After both having extra time off, the pair will shake off the cobwebs and face off against one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 26th. South Panola has now lost nine straight, and the team is hunting for their first win since November 28.
Two weeks ago, South Panola ended up a good deal behind Grenada and lost 63-47. While losing is never fun, South Panola can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th, while Grenada is ranked 119th).
South Panola's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Demartric Houston, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Cameron Griffin who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jamison Smith, who scored seven points.
Even though they lost, South Panola smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. This was only their 11th loss (out of 13 games) when they hit their own glass that hard.
Meanwhile, Lake Cormorant unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak two weeks ago. They fell to Center Hill 49-43.
South Panola's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-14. As for Lake Cormorant, their loss dropped their record down to 11-4.
South Panola took a serious blow against Lake Cormorant in their previous matchup back in December of 2023, falling 71-39. The matchup was all but decided by halftime, at which point South Panola was down 43-18.
