Charlotte Kingery made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two RBI.
In other batting news, Carroll got a big performance out of Ellie Perry, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those two runs gave Perry a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Olivia Schroder, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Carroll kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Lewis Cass unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They fell 6-3 to Mississinewa on Thursday. Sadly, the loss continues a streak the team started last season, making it eight in a row.
Ruth (Amma) Fitzhugh spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered six runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Ava Hubner made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Carroll now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Lewis Cass, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-1.
Carroll came out on top in a nail-biter against Lewis Cass in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, sneaking past 8-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
