The Ness City Eagles won the last time they faced the Dighton Hornets, and things went their way on Saturday too. Ness City walked away with a 46-39 victory over Dighton. Given Ness City's advantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 128th, while Dighton is ranked 260th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ness City to victory, but perhaps none more so than Tiana Smith, who scored 12 points along with two steals. Another player making a difference was Savannah Buller, who scored seven points along with five assists and two steals.
Dighton's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lani Speer, who scored 13 points along with two blocks. Speer hasn't dropped below two blocks for eight straight games. Rielly James was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Ness City has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games, which provided a massive bump to their 6-4 record this season. As for Dighton, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost six of their last eight contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-8 record this season.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ness City will stay at home for another game and welcome Ellinwood at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully Ellinwood focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Saturday. As for Dighton, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Otis-Bison at 6:00 p.m. Otis-Bison is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak.
