The Murrah Mustangs will head out on the road to face off against the Wingfield Falcons at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Murrah is hoping to put an end to a six-game streak of away losses.
Even though Callaway scored an imposing 64 points on Friday, Murrah still came out on top. Murrah narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Callaway 67-64. The victory was all the more spectacular given Murrah's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Mississippi basketball rankings (they are ranked 208th, while Callaway is ranked 96th).
Meanwhile, this season hasn't been kind to Wingfield, who are still winless after their eighth matchup. They fell 63-51 to Oak Grove on Friday.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was Tyler Arrington, who scored 20 points along with 5 steals. The game was his sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kentrell Jordan, who scored 13 points along with 3 steals.
Lanier's win bumped their season record to 0-0 while Murrah's loss dropped theirs to 1-9.
Murrah didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Wingfield when the teams last played back in December of 2019, but they still walked away with a 73-67 win. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Wingfield's Jaqwone Curry, who dropped a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. Now that he won't be playing on Tuesday, will it be that much easier for Murrah to walk away with another win? There's only one way to find out.
