The Old Town Coyotes will face off against the Mount Desert Island Trojans at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Mount Desert Island will be up against a hot Old Town squad: the team just extended their winning streak to seven. The Coyotes' pitchers stepped up to hand Presque Isle an 8-0 shutout on Monday.
Molly Albert was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Ava Brasslett was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, one stolen base, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Natalie Fournier, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one double.
Old Town was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .387 or higher in four consecutive games.
Mount Desert Island never got on the board in their matchup last Friday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against John Bapst Memorial on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Crusaders with a sharp 17-10 win. With that victory, the Trojans brought their scoring average up to 6.3 runs per game.
Cate Brown was a standout: she went 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The team also got some help courtesy of Alli Horner, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one double.
Old Town pushed their record up to 9-3 with the win, which was their tenth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs on average over those games. As for Mount Desert Island, their win ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 6-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Old Town has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 5.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mount Desert Island struggles in that department as they've been averaging 2.7 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
