The Laurens Academy Crusaders had to endure a six-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They slipped by Cambridge Academy 69-68 on Friday. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Maddox Lee and Andrew Wiley certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Lee scored 29 points along with six rebounds and two steals, while Wiley dropped a double-double on 21 points and ten rebounds. Lee also posted two blocks for the first time this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bradley Funderburk, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Laurens Academy's win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-15. As for Cambridge Academy, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost nine of their last 12 contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-13 record this season.
Laurens Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Cambridge Academy will head out on the road to face off against the Warriors at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in South Carolina (Oconee Christian Academy is ranked 269th, while the Cougars are ranked 265th).
