Venice is on an eight-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Evangelical Christian is on an 11-game streak of away wins (also dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Indians will host the Sentinels at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (Venice 2.9, Evangelical Christian 3.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.
On Wednesday, Venice was able to grind out a solid victory over Port Charlotte, taking the game 7-3.
Olivia Wilkie spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kaylin Smith was incredible, going 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Raionna Smith, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.
Kaylin wasn't the only one making solid contact: Venice kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Port Charlotte only managed four hits.
Meanwhile, Evangelical Christian never let their opponents score on Tuesday. Everything went their way against Aubrey Rogers as they made off with an 8-0 win. Considering the Sentinels have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Not much got past Hayden Billie, who gave up just four hits and racked up ten Ks to keep Aubrey Rogers off the board.
On the hitting side, Angelina Yzaguirre and Samantha Yzaguirre did most of the damage at the plate: Angelina scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-2, while Samantha went 1-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Paizley Billie was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Venice has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for Evangelical Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 15-2.
Both Venice and Evangelical Christian just can't seem to miss. The Indians have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Evangelical Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Venice couldn't quite finish off Evangelical Christian in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 and fell 4-2. Will the Indians have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other softball content.
