The Hastings Tigers are on the road again on Friday and play against the Waverly Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
A well-balanced attack led Hastings over Seward in every quarter on their way to victory on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Hastings blew Seward out of the water with a 35-6 final score. Hastings pushed the score to 28-6 by the end of the third, a deficit Seward had little chance of recovering from.
Hastings' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Kooper Kohl, who rushed for 127 yards and two touchdowns. Hastings also got help from Keithen Krings who showed off his sure hands for 114 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Waverly put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They didn't even let Ralston onto the board and left with a 42-0 win. Given Waverly's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska football rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Ralston is ranked 91st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Waverly to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aden Smith, who rushed for 95 yards and two touchdowns on only seven carries. Smith was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 53 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Maahs, who threw for 92 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.
Hastings is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season. As for Waverly, their win was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 10-0.
Hastings was taken down by Waverly 48-14 in their previous matchup back in November of 2019. Thankfully for Hastings, Mason Nieman (who rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns on only 13 carries, and also threw for 56 yards and two touchdowns on only five passes) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
