Baseball Recap: East Union Picks Up Eighth Straight Win on the Road

East Union came tearing into Saturday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 6 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by an 11-1 margin over the Pine Grove Panthers. The result was nothing new for the Urchins, who have now won ten contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

East Union got a great performance from Luke Elder as he struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and not a single walk). Elder has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Landon Harmon was incredible, firing off three home runs and seven RBI while going 3-for-3. What's more, he posted three runs, the most he's had since back in February. Another player making a difference was Ben Basil, who went 1-for-2 with one home run and two runs.

East Union hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in four consecutive games.

East Union's win was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-3. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Pine Grove, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-9.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. East Union will challenge Hamilton at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The last three games Hamilton has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Pine Grove, they will square off against Myrtle at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Myrtle's pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so Pine Grove's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
