The Athens Bulldogs won against the Logan Elm Braves last Monday with 67 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Thursday. Athens strolled past Logan Elm with points to spare, taking the game 67-53. Given Athens' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while Logan Elm is ranked 368th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Athens found their leader in underclassman Brystol Stump, who scored 26 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Stump has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Asa Holcombe, who almost dropped a triple-double on nine points, 11 rebounds, and nine assists.
Athens pushed their record up to 13-4 with that victory, which was their seventh straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points per game. As for Logan Elm, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-10.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Athens will take on Chillicothe at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Logan Elm, they will head out on the road to square off against Bloom-Carroll at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Bloom-Carroll has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
